Tom Cruise has filed a $50 million lawsuit against Life & Style and In Touch magazines, claiming they defamed him by reporting he'd abandoned 6-year-old Suri.
According to TMZ: "In the lawsuit, filed in L.A. federal court, Tom takes issue with the July 30th cover of Life & Style, which reads, "SURI IN TEARS, ABANDONED BY HER DAD" -- as well as the October 1st cover of In Touch, which shows a picture of Suri above the headline, "ABANDONED BY DADDY."
"According to the suit, Tom claims the mags' headlines are FALSE -- insisting, he "loves his daughter dearly and would never abandon her."
"Tom is suing for $50 million plus punitive damages for defamation and invasion of privacy."
Tom's lawyer, Bert Fields says: "Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible." Fields goes on: "Tom doesn't go around suing people. He's not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue." Fields goes on to bash the mags, saying, "These serial defamers are foreign owned companies with their global headquarters in Hamburg. They take money from unsuspecting Americans by selling their malicious garbage. Having to pay a libel judgment may slow them down."
Eyes Wide Shut was based on Tom & Nicole's marriage
Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman has told The Hollywood Reporter that director Stanley Kubrick tried to base the sexual thriller about a troubled married couple on her real-life relationship with Tom Cruise.
She writes: "People thought that making the film was the beginning of the end of my marriage — but I don't really think it was.
Explaining how Kubrick tried to base the characters, Alice and Bill Harford, on her marriage to Cruise, she explained: "Onscreen, the husband and wife are at odds, and Stanley wanted to use our marriage as a supposed reality.
"That was Stanley: He used the movie as provocation, pretending it was our sex life. Which we weren't oblivious to, but obviously it wasn't us."
Justin's jumping for joy
Now here's a celebrity wedding photo you don't see every day. Justin Timberlake takes a giant leap in the Tom Ford tux he helped design for his marriage to Jessica Biel.
People magazine has all the exclusive details and photos from the wedding, including Justin playing the guitar and serenading Jessica down the aisle. "It was an original piece I wrote specifically for the evening and her," Justin said.
In less romantic news, Gawker reports that a friend of Justin's produced a video to be played at the wedding, called "Greetings from your Hollywood friends who just couldn't make it" ... Homeless people in L.A congratulating the happy couple.
Now that's a tasteful thing to do at a $6.5million wedding ...
Dlisted says: "So there was Jessica, Justin and their rich friends, covered in diamonds and laughing at the vagrants as they sipped $3,000-a-bottle champagne that was cut with blended $100 bills and sapphire dust. They laughed laughed laughed! That's some depression era shit. When Gawker asked Justin Huchel for a comment, Justin Huchel's lawyer commented with a letter threatening to sue if a piece of the video, which was supposed to be a joke, saw the light of the internet."
Joe Simpson confirms divorce, denies gay rumors
Jessica Simpson's dad has released a statement confirming he and wife Tina have filed for divorce.
Well, to be entirely accurate, Tina filed for divorce. And the family's home is up for sale, with a $4.3mil price tag.
"It's an amicable split and there is no third party involved," according to their rep. "Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time."
The "related allegations" refers to a story in The National Enquirer, which suggests Joe has come out to his family.
“Joe got the family together about two months ago and came out of the closet. He told them that he’d tried to continue in his marriage to Tina, but he couldn’t go on any longer and deny the fact that he had these feelings for men. Joe said it wasn’t fair to her, and it wasn’t fair to him.”
And when Joe was pulled over for DUI over two months ago, his 20-year-old boyfriend was apparently sitting next to him in the car.
Ooops.
I'm not entirely sure about the "amicable" part of the statement either, since Joe has filed his own petition, insisting Tina get nothing in the settlement.
Lindsay accused of stealing ... Again
The National Enquirer is on a roll this week. It also reckons Lindsay Lohan stole $15,000 worth of clothes from the set of Scary Movie 5.
"The wardrobe people were unhappy about the missing clothes, but at the end of the day the producers decided it was more trouble than it was worth to try and get them back," a source revealed.
Lindsay's spokesman Steve Honig told MailOnline: "This is pure National Enquirer fiction."
Hugh's hot new cover
How divine does Hugh Jackman look on the cover of Australian Women's Weekly? If I was still writing my The Mag I Bought This Week Award, I know which one I'd be choosing.
Hugh opens up in the cover story about his mum abandoning him at age 8. She fled to England and broke the news to her family via telegram.
"I never felt that my mum didn't love me," he says. "I've spoken about it at length with her since and I know she was struggling. She was in hospital after I was born suffering post-natal depression. There wasn't a support network for her here."
Donna Hay-AWW Facebook stoush
Not so divine news for AWW is that the magazine has been accused of copying a Donna Hay mag cover.
The two mags engaged in a very public stoush on Facebook before the item was taken down by AWW.
Hot pics & clicks
* Wow, that's one sensational Halloween costume, Heidi Klum. (Heidi takes her Halloween costumes very seriously, for pics of all her previous efforts, click here.)
* Rachel Hunter still looks pretty crook after suffering an inflamed heart (and a broken one).
* Mariah Carey just got an 8-hour massage. "The masseuse made $1,500," a source tells Us Weekly. On top of that, Carey had a seriously kooky request. "She insisted [Sacha Baron Cohen's] Bruno play on repeat," the insider adds. "It looped the entire time!"
lovely story this is
